Just as we’re all about to recover from Christmas, it’s time to ring in a new year. I hope 2013 is a blessed new year for you and yours!

And if you’re out and about New Year’s Eve, please be careful. Take Mockler Beverage Co. up on its offer of a safe ride home via Yellow Cab or Guy’s Towing. Of course, our first order of business is to cheer on LSU in a bowl victory against the Clemson Tigers.

Ladies who lunch

The Friday before Christmas I joined hostesses Carole Fredrickson, daughter Stephanie Faust, Stacey Davis and Sherry Melara and a group of their friends for a very special holiday luncheon. Stephanie proved she has her mom’s knack for decorating and hosting as she rolled out the welcome mat to her lovely and inviting home for the occasion, which benefited the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Guests simply dropped their donation onto a silver tray before mingling with friends, sipping their beverage of choice and enjoying homemade soups, shrimp and grits, and a scrumptious bread pudding.

As we said our goodbyes and prepared to brave traffic and the last of the Christmas shopping rush, the hostesses gifted us with the “Jolly Juice” wine glasses we’d been sipping from. A perfect parting gift.
