At its annual Juneteenth Celebration on June 17 at the Southern University Event Center, the Alpha Enrichment Foundation Inc. of Alpha Phi Alpha honored seven community leaders for their contributions to the community and awarded scholarships to four young men.

Receiving plaques from Beta Iota Lambda Chapter President Mark L. Barnes were state Rep. Barbara West Carpenter; the Rev. Danny M. Donaldson Sr., pastor of Rose Hill Baptist Church; Saundra Yancy McGuire, director emeritus of LSU's Center for Academic Success; attorneys Alejandro Raeshod Perkins and Katina M. Semien; Shawn Wilson, secretary of the state Department of Transportation and Development; and Dr. Steven Kelley, cardiologist.

Scholarships were presented by education Chairman Edward Doomes to Perry Franklin Jr., Caleb Johnson, Troy Pierre and Howard White III.
