Sixteen young women were presented by the Nu Gamma Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. at its annual Debutante Cotillion and Spring Ball on March 28 at the Baton Rouge Marriott. Welcoming the 400 guests and leading them in a toast was President Chandra Stacie. Michelle McCalope served as mistress of ceremonies for “A Carousel of Pearls: Graceful, Rare and Treasured.”
Crowned as queen of the cotillion was Maya Alexis Kleinpeter, daughter of Mia and Milton Kleinpet er. She was escorted by Jacory Charles Jones. Kleinpeter was also recognized as Miss Amity.
Reigning as princesses were First Princess Lezli Denise Slaughter, daughter of Denise and Ralph Slaughter, escorted by Khristian Mims; Second Princess Tayler Jalise Fort, daughter of Cherita and Richard Fort, escorted by Jalon Baker; Third Princess Johnna Alise Johnson, daughter of Alethea and Johnny Johnson, escorted by Jacob Juge; Fourth Princess Ty’Keria LaShae Jackson, daughter of Sharonda Jackson and Michael Watson Jr. and guardians Esther and Michael Watson Sr., escorted by Turrell Pierre; Fifth Princess Elise Gabrielle Gipson, daughter of Michele and Kelvin Gipson, escorted by Lionel Lee; Sixth Princess Morghan Simone Hudson, daughter of Nicole and Arthur Hudson, escorted by Bryce Alexander Jones; Seventh Princess J’Lynzia Malaya Glover, daughter of Debbie and Joseph Glover, escorted by Joseph M. Glover Jr.; Eighth Princess Tamara Kay Fluker, daughter of Tonya Fluker and Thomas Fluker III and guardian Katie Fluker, presented by Reginald Flood and escorted by LaShalln Lagarde; and Ninth Princess Alexis Nichole Simoneaux, daughter of Shalonda and Mark Simoneaux, escorted by Brandon Oliver.
Honored as maids were First Maid Kourtney Trénelle Jackson, daughter of Rebecca Jackson and Nathaniel Selders Jr., presented by Larry Washington and escorted by Aaron Franklin; Second Maid Ja de Alexandra DelValle, daughter of DaMaris Landry, presented by Mark Barnes and escorted by Edgar Janise; Third Maid Cara DaLaune Blunt, daughter of Kimberlee and Brian Coleman and Colby Blunt, escorted by Alfred Legarde; and Fourth Maid Biaunka Nichole Robinson, daughter of Trashica Robinson, presented by Jeremy Robinson.
Honored as Pearls were Sydné D’Les Barard, daughter of Nicole and Brandon Barard, escorted by Daniel Andrew James; Tailyn Briere Smith, daughter of Tia and Van Chew and Sherman C. Brazil, escorted by Darrien Madison.
Ball captains for the event were Braylon Ashunté Jones, Darren Paul Lockett, Auston Gary Shelton, Austin Paul Veal and Shyron LáMon White .
Joycelyn Green served as general debutante chairwoman while Errin Gaines served as co-chairwoman. Bridgette Richard-Jamison was choreographer for the cotillion ball. Other program participants included Mia Strong, Toyia Charles-Comminey, Lynn Farris, Vanessa Caston-LaFleur and Eileen Kennedy. Proceeds from the debutante ball are awarded as scholastic awards as well as to sponsor community service projects.
