Laura Gilliland and Mike Nichols were honored with the Kiwanian of the Year award at the Red Stick Kiwanis Installation and Awards Banquet at the City Club on Oct. 15. Making the presentation was outgoing President Matt Robinson.

Veteran members of the organization were presented an American Flag lapel pin by the Rev. John McCay, outgoing governor of Louisiana, Mississippi and Western Tennessee district, who was joined by his wife, Susan, for the night.

Other dignitaries at the banquet included district Gov. Gary Graham and wife Jamie, district Gov.-elect Fred Pitts and wife Carol, outgoing District 8B Lt. Gov. Jeff Wittenbrink and wife Tamara and District 8B Lt. Gov. Gary LaBauve and wife Melonie. Charlie Roberts served as master of ceremonies.

LaBauve oversaw the installation of the organization’s 2015-2016 officers and board. They included President Tom Gibbs, President-elect Bob Waggener, Secretary Philip DiVincenti, Treasurer Jerry Hammons and board members Bob Breaux, Jon Goeckel, LaBauve, Russ London, Jacques Villaume, Gilliland and Nichols.

The celebration also included talks by Kim DiVincenti Denson and Nhi Nguyen, sponsor and president, respectively, of the Baton Rouge Magnet High School Key Club, which was chartered by Red Stick Kiwanis. Three student members — G eorgia Garrett, Csanyi Matuscky and Lina Pham — provided the evening’s entertainment.
