Just down Highland Road from the LSU campus, Woodstone Estates is an upscale community where homes don’t go on the market that often. But now, the traditional style home at 6526 Millstone Ave. is available. It has oak and travertine floors, exposed beams and a fabulous pool out back.
The home was built in 1983, but has been fully updated. It has a flowing layout that is perfect for entertaining, as well excellent craftsmanship and quality materials. The home has five bedrooms and four full baths in just under 4,000 square feet of living space.
It all starts in the foyer, which has narrow oak planks that extend into a formal sitting room to the right. A stairway to the added second floor runs up the sitting room wall opposite windows to the front yard. A cased opening leads into the formal dining room, which has a beautiful bay window that allows lots of natural light to filter inside.
The kitchen, which connects to the formal dining room, has tile floors and upscale appliances that include a commercial-grade four-burner Dacor cook-top with a griddle and double ovens below a custom hood. The kitchen also cleverly mixes granite counters and a concrete bar that fronts the family room. A stainless double sink is below two windows.
A breakfast area with a nice picture window is across from the granite counter in the kitchen. A small wet bar with a wine refrigerator is near a short hallway to the home’s two-car carport. A half-bath and the home’s laundry are also conveniently near the carport exit.
The family room has a wall of windows across the back that view the covered back porch and pool courtyard. The hourglass-shaped pool has a curving wrought iron fence that follows the shape of the pool. Behind the workshop is an arbor with outdoor seating.
The family room and the kitchen both have exposed beams – painted over the family room and stained over the kitchen. It’s a nice mixture that results in a warm effect. The family room has a granite fireplace with an entertainment center to the right and bookcases left.
An oak hallway leads to the private areas of the home, where there are four bedrooms including the master suite at the end of the L-shaped hall. Two of the bedrooms share a hall bath, one has its own bedroom, and of course the master suite has its own bath.
The master bedroom has a French door exit to the porch and pool. The elegant master bath has an unusual layout that puts dual vanities facing each other with a free-standing mirror in between on a center island. Walls of big cabinets serve as “master closets.” There’s also a whirlpool tub as well as a corner travertine shower with frameless glass.
In the upstairs addition, accessed by a custom staircase from the sitting room, are the guest suite and a full bath. There are two closets at the upstairs landing, one for storage and one lockable closet that is being used as a gun closet.
Up two more steps and there’s a big playroom that could easily be converted into a home theater, library or whatever the new owner might want.
If you’d like to see this beautiful home in Woodstone Estates for yourself, Lisa Landers and her team from RE/MAX Professional will keep it open Sunday 1/8/16 from 2-4 p.m.
