Just 15 or so residents get to claim Pebble Beach as their home. Not the one in California, but the one in the Highlands of Santa Maria. I’ve visited both and trust me, the one in Santa Maria is just as nice as the one near Carmel-by-the-Sea. One of those 15 homes – a magnificent Mediterranean mansion at 19424 Pebble Beach Drive – is available.
Sitting high atop a hill on the corner of Santa Maria and Pebble Beach drives, this 4,827-square-foot mansion has a fabulous front elevation that features a balustrade wall at the entrance. Out back, the pool courtyard boasts a covered outdoor kitchen, a T-shaped saltwater pool with waterfalls and two large balconies overlooking it all. Nothing is overlooked in this special home; thoughtful design and attention to detail are its hallmarks.
The home manages to stay warm despite its imposing size. The trick is combining top grade materials, soothing colors and expert craftsmanship. And that’s just what this home does. Custom faux finishes on interior columns, kitchen cabinetry and in the guest baths are all tastefully hand-detailed by Dana Taite, and nearly every square foot of the home is floored in either travertine tile or heart pine. Two exceptions are the theater room and the home gym upstairs, where custom carpet is more suited.
There are two fireplaces in the residence, one in the living room and one in the master bedroom. Custom iron work from Delgado Wrought iron is strategically scattered throughout the home: on the custom staircase, on numerous chandeliers and even in a unique transom above the entry to the master suite. The curving staircase also has heart pine treads and tumbled travertine risers with granite inserts. The home has eight hand-painted ceiling medallions, four vintage gas lanterns, custom light fixtures throughout and fabulous window treatments that will remain.
The master suite is fit for a king, with heart pine floors and an exit to the Mediterranean paradise out back. A 6-foot whirlpool tub is front and center in the master bath, while custom granite tops vanities on either side. A 2-door steam shower is nearby, and there are separate his/hers quarters and even separate toilets. The single closet is more like a closet-room, with built-in dressers, hanging spaces, shoe shelves and storage for days.
Meanwhile, the kitchen has a 10-foot island topped with 3cm beveled edge granite, a copper double farm sink and a paneled Jenn-Air refrigerator to match the faux-finished cabinetry. Appliances include a 5-burner gas cook top, dual Jenn-Air wall ovens, an icemaker and a microwave drawer. Backsplashes are tumbled travertine with copper inserts. And to make sure nobody goes without refreshment or entertainment for any length of time, there are no less than four refrigerators and seven televisions in the home.
Upstairs, two bedrooms are connected by a Hollywood bath, and the home’s elegant study has an exit to one of two private balconies overlooking the pool courtyard. This home may not fit every budget, but if you are a discriminating buyer that wants every single detail perfect, you should absolutely check out this Mediterranean beauty in Pebble Beach.
