A ceremony renaming Arsenal Park next to the State Capitol as Louisiana Veterans Memorial Park was held Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, with many veterans and their families in attendance. Signs at the park, site of the Old Arsenal Museum, will go up in coming months with the new name, making the park the first on state property to recognize the hundreds of thousands of people from Louisiana who have served, been wounded, or been killed while serving in the U.S. military. Over time, time, improvements like park benches are expected to be added by different groups. Later Friday at the LSU Salutes Ole War Skule Commandant’s Luncheon, Gov. Edwards was one of eight LSU alumni inducted into the Louisiana State University Military Hall of Honor.
