A naming ceremony naming the Comite River Bridge on Central Thruway to honor the late former Metro Councilman/Mayor Pro-Tem Joe Greco was held Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017 at the bridge, and was attended by family, friends and several mayors. Greco, who  pursued the project for 20 years before it was finally fulfilled, was able to name the Beaver Bayou Bridge on Central Thruway after his late wife, Joan, in July of 2013.  The Thruway opened up a new, much more convenient connection between the city of Central and major areas of Baton Rouge. Joe Greco, who died at 84 years of age on June 30, 2017, is  remembered for his commitment to community service and for his passion of community development, as well as being owner (with wife Joan) of Greco's Drug Store, which eventually became Greco Pet and Veterinary Supply, serving  pets and their owners for over 55 years.
