Sheriff’s deputies from Ascension and Livingston parishes are arriving in Baton Rouge to assist city police, East Baton Rouge sheriff’s deputies and state troopers as protesters continue to hold demonstrations following the shooting death of Alton Sterling.
A post on the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Facebook page says some deputies were heading to Baton Rouge on Saturday night to assist other agencies during the protests.
A Facebook post from Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard notes that some of his deputies were called to Baton Rouge at the request of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office.
“Rest assured that while some deputies are there, Livingston Parish — all residents and businesses — is still being fully ‘served & protected,’ ” Ard said in the post.
Protests have been held at multiple locations in Baton Rouge, including the Baton Rouge Police Department headquarters and the Triple S Food Mart, where Sterling was shot and killed by a police officer early Tuesday.
