The 911 call to police that reported a man with a gun outside the Triple S Food Mart on North Foster Drive came from a homeless man, according to a report.

A homeless man approached Alton Sterling to “repeatedly” ask him for money, CNN reported Thursday morning, citing a senior law enforcement official. Sterling then showed the man his gun, prompting him to call police, CNN reported.

Baton Rouge police shot and killed Sterling, 37, outside the convenience store early Tuesday. Two cellphone videos that show the shooting have been released.
