Funeral services for Baton Rouge religious and community leader the Rev. Ronald Williams are set for Wednesday at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church at 9700 Scenic Highway.
That's a change from the previously announced location of Mount Carmel Baptist Church on Prescott Road.
A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, followed by the service at 11 a.m.
A founder of community activist group Together Baton Rouge and a leader at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Williams worked on a number of community projects, from pushing for a re-examination of payday loan companies to working on getting more funding for public transportation in Baton Rouge.
“Rev. Williams never sought, and often refused, the limelight. But he played a profound role in our community, in the work of Together Baton Rouge and in many other organizations and initiatives,” according to the funeral service announcement from Together Baton Rouge. “He was one of the initial, small group of pastors who began meeting in 2008 to create a vision for what became Together Baton Rouge. He led the first action of Together Baton Rouge to win the reconstruction of the Blue Grass Bridge in the Glen Oaks community. He served on the Blue Ribbon Commission on Transit and helped lead the campaign to reform our public transit system.”
