BREC, Walk-On’s and LSU coach Johnny Jones dedicated a new outdoor basketball court at BREC’s Expressway Park on July 21.

The park, at 935 S. 11th St., features a playground, recreation center, picnic areas, a practice football field and a trailhead to the Downtown Greenway.

“Recreational activities bring neighbors together, encourage safer, cleaner neighborhoods and create a livelier community atmosphere,” BREC Superintendent Carolyn McKnight said at the ribbon-cutting.

Funding for the $22,000 project came from Walk-On’s and Jones’ Courts for Kids program, which raised money through a golf tournament. Courts for Kids refurbishes courts in communities around Louisiana.

The Expressway Park court, formerly a tennis court, has been made into one full basketball court and one half basketball court. Other new amenities include fencing, basketball goals and bleachers.
