The La Capitale Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association awarded a grant from ABWA National’s Stephen Bufton Memorial Education Fund to Sammi Rushing during the chapter’s meeting at Juban’s on Sept. 9.

The fund provides educational grants and scholarships to women pursuing post-secondary educational goals, as well as ongoing professional development, a news release said.

Rushing is pursuing a degree in mass communication with a concentration in broadcast journalism and a double minor in history and political science at LSU’s Manship School of Mass Communication. She is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Phi Sigma Theta Honor Society, LSU College Republicans and Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.

Rushing has interned for Sen. Bill Cassidy, the Republican Party of Louisiana and state Sen. Dale Eardey as his legislative aide for the 2015 session. She plans to attend law school and hopes to one day be a political analyst for a major news organization.
