Runnels School seniors Hampton Hudson and Johnny Johnson have been recruited by college baseball teams. Both received athletic scholarships.
Hudson will go to Southern University as an outfielder, and Johnson will play shortstop for LSU-Eunice.
Hudson, who earned first team All-District, All-Metro and All-State baseball honors last year, said playing for Southern, an NCAA Division I SWAC college, is a “big deal” for him and his family.
“It’s pretty much what I’ve been waiting for,” he said.
Hudson plans to major in physical therapy or something in the medical field.
Johnson, a member of the Runnels varsity baseball team for four years, was a Marucci Elite player, participated in the WWBA World Championship Perfect Game Tournament in Jupiter, Florida, in October and was named a World Championship All-Tourney hitter.
Johnson said he’s excited about playing for LSU-Eunice.
“It’s a really good program,” he said.
“The team made it to the Junior College World Series eight times in the past 10 years and won the championship five times.”
