The Foundation for Woman’s recently received a $100,000 grant from The Hearst Foundations for a new Mammography Coach, a news release said.
Adding a second coach to its fleet will allow Woman’s Hospital to increase the number of patients it serves to nearly 10,000 annually. Services would expand to Iberia, Jefferson, Lafourche, Orleans, Plaquemines and St. Bernard parishes.
The grant also will help upgrade the current coach from 2-D technology to 3-D.
Woman’s Hospital’s current coach, a mobile screening clinic for women in need, provided more than 4,700 screening mammograms and yielded 26 cancer diagnoses through its visits to churches, workplaces, grocery stores, community centers and more to offer screenings to women in need in 2015.
“As a result of this generous grant from The Hearst Foundations, women in need will have greater access to health care and receive screening mammograms regardless of their ability to pay,” said Beverly Brooks Thompson, PhD, CFRE, president and chief development officer for Foundation for Woman’s. “The Mammography Coach is central to our mission to improve the lives of women in our community.”
