A well-traveled part of Jones Creek Road between Shenandoah Avenue and Tiger Bend Road will close Friday night through Monday morning.
The road will be closed for the weekend as workers perform sewer work in the area. Only about 1 mile of Jones Creek Road, which stretches across the Shenandoah area, will be closed.
The city-parish is suggesting that northbound drivers take a less direct route from Tiger Bend Road to Stumberg Lane to Coursey Boulevard, which will lead them back to the open part of Jones Creek Road.
Southbound drivers should do the reverse and take Coursey Boulevard to Stumberg Lane to Tiger Bend Road and then drive back to Jones Creek Road.
Jones Creek Road already has message boards alerting drivers to the closure.
Jones Creek is one of many roads that already has undergone construction as part of the city-parish Green Light Plan to improve streets. Part of Jones Creek from Coursey Boulevard to South Harrell’s Ferry Road was widened in 2011.
The city and state also are in the planning stages of another Jones Creek upgrade that would extend the widening and other improvements south from Tiger Bend Road to Jefferson Highway. The project is a long way off, and it still needs to go through design, right-of-way and construction processes.
The portion of Jones Creek road will close at 8 p.m. Friday and reopen at 6 a.m. Monday.
