A man accused of burning a toddler’s feet so badly the child’s skin peeled off was arrested Sunday in Baton Rouge.

Joey Anderson, 30, faces a count of second-degree cruelty to juveniles along with an outstanding count of speeding, according to an East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s office report.

Anderson, the roommate of the father of a 16-month old girl, sometimes watches the child while the father is at work, the report says. Anderson, who’d supervised the girl on Saturday, called the father late that night and told him the girl’s feet had been sunburned, according to the statement.

After the father took his daughter to a local hospital, a doctor told investigators the burns were “most likely not from a sunburn,” the document says.

Anderson claimed he had played outdoors with the girl but didn’t notice any redness to her feet, only noticing the burns after giving her a bath, the report says. Later, he said he may have accidentally burned the child’s feet in the bathtub, the document says.

Anderson, of 16947 Hamilton Ave. in Baton Rouge, was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and was assigned a bond of $1,000, according to jail records.
