Volunteers with Opening Doors, an organization working with children and families in the Gardere area, hosted the annual Unity in the Community event Feb. 28 at St. John’s United Methodist Church.

Four-year-old students from Charlie Thomas Head Start shared information about famous African-Americans, sang and danced during the program.

The Festive Singers from the St. John’s performed, and the Rev. Sarah Shoup used the book “Only One Me” in her presentation to the children.

Children received books and book bags thanks to donation from St. Luke’s Episcopal School.
