SLU recognized at journalism conference _lowres

Students from the Department of Languages and Communication at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond finished fifth overall at the Southeast Journalism Conference Championships recently at Austin Peay State University.

Students receiving individual awards included Jaylon Morris and Tyler Waggenspack, both of Baton Rouge, second in ethics.

In the school awards categories, SLU was ranked No. 1 for the Southeastern Channel as the best college television station and No. 2 for best college video news program. KSLU ranked No. 2 for best college radio station.

Students receiving honors in the Best of the South competition held prior to the convention included Danielle Shearer, of Hammond, third for best advertising staff member.

Professor Joe Mirando, a founding member of the Southeast Journalism Conference and its current secretary/treasurer, accompanied the students on the trip.
