East Baton Rouge Parish School Board member for District 2 Vereta Lee has been re-elected for a third term against opponent Daniel Banguel.
Lee received 7,672 votes, or 66 percent, while Banguel received 4,040 votes, or 34 percent, according to unofficial results from the Louisiana Secretary of State office.
Lee, 56, has worked as a teacher and supervisor in various school systems and has said she works to be a voice of community and school employees on the board. She said as a two-term incumbent, there is a lot of work she’d still like to see completed.
Banguel, 28, said he believe it’s the board’s job to hire a superintendent to handle the day to day operations of the school system, but too often school board members want to meddle in that process. Instead, he said, the school board needs to do a better job of working together to better support more progress in the schools.
