Two St. Gabriel men were indicted Wednesday in the May 18 drug-related slaying of two Baton Rouge men at a Gardere Lane apartment.
An East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury charged Charles Lanaute, 19, and Darrius Montel Miller, 22, with second-degree murder in the shooting deaths of Orok Ironbar Jr., 32, and Russell Celestine, 31.
Lanaute, of 1340 Besson Lane, and Miller, of 1755 Besson Lane, allegedly went to Ironbar’s Gardere Lane apartment to sell marijuana, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Lanaute told detectives he stayed downstairs with the marijuana while Miller went upstairs to the apartment, where Ironbar and Celestine were shot and robbed, sheriff’s officials have said.
When deputies arrived at the apartment in the early morning hours of May 19, they found Ironbar dead and Celestine seriously injured. Celestine later died at a hospital.
A second-degree murder conviction would carry an automatic sentence of life in prison.
The case has been assigned to state District Judge Trudy White.
