Most people expect to leave the library carrying out a load of books, but one lucky person might have walked away with an engagement ring on Monday night or Tuesday morning.
East Baton Rouge Parish Library staffers found a formation of rocks on the Main Library’s rooftop terrace Tuesday morning that spelled out “Marry Me?” Library staffers posted a photo of it on their Facebook and Instagram pages, asking to learn the full story of the mystery proposal. They believe it happened sometime late Monday evening or early Tuesday morning.
“We would love to know the story behind it ... and did she say yes?!” the library’s post reads. It quickly accumulated more than 100 likes and many shares on social media.
Assistant Library Director Mary Stein said no one has come forward to claim the proposal yet, and they are not sure if the proposal was serious. But the gesture has still tickled library staffers.
“Our impression is that this charming expression just underscores what a great, dynamic and welcoming place the new Main Library is — some might even say that ‘your EBRP library is for lovers,’ ” Stein said.
The rooftop terrace is one of the new Main Library’s popular amenities, as it overlooks much of Baton Rouge with treetop canopies below. The terrace also features gardens where agave plants grow, and the rocks spelling out the proposal appear to be from the garden.
