Northwestern hosts prospective students

NATCHITOCHES — High school underclassmen considering studies at Northwestern State University can get visit the campus Feb. 2 during its annual Explore Northwestern State Day.

High school juniors, sophomores, freshmen and families are invited to the free program.

Registration starts at 9 a.m. in Magale Recital Hall and programs begin at 10 a.m.

Faculty will be available starting at 11:30 a.m. to discuss the university’s academic programs and there will be tours of the campus and university housing.

HAMMOND — Southeastern Louisiana University has formed a scholarship aid program for students who are on track for graduation but may not be able to complete their studies without financial assistance.

The Completer Scholarship Fund is designed to provide support for students who are within one year of graduation.

SLU officials say the fund received a boost with a $43,000 donation from telecommunications provider AT&T Louisiana.

King Day celebration set in Thibodaux

THIBODAUX — A tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is set for Monday in Thibodaux.

Called “Keeping the Dream Alive,” the celebration is set for 3 p.m. at the American Legion Hall on Narrow Street.

The Rev. Lloyd Jones, pastor of Moses Baptist Church in Thibodaux and Virginia Baptist Church in Koltzville, will deliver keynote remarks.
