The arrival of spring means flowers blooming, temperatures warming and water splashing.

Splash pads — fountains that gush water onto playful entrants at BREC parks — officially open today, April 1, for the 2015 season. Those looking for a way to cool down can push a button to let the water rain down on them from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily until October.

The splash pads are located at City-Brooks Community Park near LSU and the Garden District, Forest Community Park on the east side of the city and Greenwood Community Park in Baker.

After pressing the button, water will spray for two to three minutes until the button needs to be re-activated.
