Characters from children’s fiction came to life on Oct. 9 at the annual “Storybook Character Parade” at Runnels Preschool.

Prekindergarten students dressed as their favorite characters from their favorite books and were interviewed on a red carpet by preschool teacher Debbie Schacht, dressed as the Cat in the Hat. Students talked about their characters in front of an audience of family and friends and displayed their books.

After the parade, held in conjunction with the preschool’s Fall Scholastic Book Fair, a family picnic was held on the playground.

“The purpose of the parade is to emphasize the importance of reading with young children,” said Preschool Co-Director Karen Runnels. “Early reading creates a love for reading in our young students and sets them up for success in school.”
