A 19-year-old Baton Rouge man was indicted Thursday in the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man on Southpark Drive in August.
Cedrick Jamal Smith was charged by an East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury with second-degree murder in the Aug. 19 killing of Artez Hamilton.
Detectives learned Smith had arranged with unknown people a trade of two assault-style rifles for two handguns, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said previously. A witness identified Smith as the man seen running from the area where Hamilton was found.
Smith, 3020 Woodcrest St., faces a mandatory term of life in prison if convicted as charged. The case has been assigned to state District Judge Beau Higginbotham.
