Coming up Nov. 1-24 at the Anthony Bean Theater is the world premiere of “I’d Rather Be Rich,” written by New Orleanian Fred R. Roberts Jr. and described by founder Anthony Bean as “a very funny comedy with an interracial cast.”

Dane Rhodes will play the lead character in the show, in which “a group of superficial friends who show their true colors as they love and betray each other to become rich.”

For the holidays, Harold X. Evans stars as Scrooge in an African-American interpretation of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” Dec. 5-21.

In 2015, the theater will stage the return of “Say Amen: A Gospel Music Play” (Jan. 23 through Feb. 8), Tennessee Williams’ “The Glass Menagerie” (April 3-19), “The Color Purple” (May 22 through June 14), “The Me Nobody Knows” (July 17-26), August Wilson’s “Fences” (Sept. 11-27) and “Simply Irma,” an original musical about the life of Irma Thomas for an unspecified date in November.
