Employees of the town of Independence will soon be required to punch a time clock or fill out time card as the Tangipahoa Parish community attempts to tighten financial controls.

The Town Council is trying to save money for financially troubled Independence.

The time clock/card ordinance, approved unanimously, would require the signature of the employee and his or her supervisor before it is sent to the Town Hall.

The town clerk has reported difficulty in properly paying employees for hours worked.

The council did not set a timetable for implementing the new procedure.
