Motorists using Old Perkins Road between Highland Road and the Ascension Parish line may experience delays through Monday.

East and westbound lanes of Old Perkins Road, La. 427, between Highland Road and the Ascension Parish line will have alternating lane closures, weather permitting, DOTD spokeswoman Lauren Lee said.

The $830,000 project on La. 427 will overlay approximately 1.4 miles from the Ascension Parish line to La. 42. Work on the project began last month and is scheduled to finish by spring 2015, Lee said.

As of Jan. 6, crews began milling the roadway to remove the existing top layer of asphalt. Once this work is complete, a portion of the roadway will be removed and rebuilt, and a new roadway surface will be installed, Lee said.

Motorists can experience lane closures from 8 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday, weather permitting. A minimum of one lane will remain open to traffic at all times, Lee said.

Work is subject to change depending on adverse weather conditions, she said.

Motorists should expect delays and be prepared to stop. This project will allow vehicles 10 feet wide or less to pass through the construction zone during closures.

DOTD asks that motorists drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
