An LSU physicist was among the scientists awarded the 2015 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics last Sunday for the discovery that the expansion of the universe is accelerating, rather than decelerating as had been long assumed.

Bradley Schaefer was among 50 scientists to share the $3 million award. He shares the award with the other members of the High-Redshift Supernova Search Team and with members of the Supernova Cosmology Project.

Schaefer was part of a team of scientists to win a Nobel Prize in 2011 for the same discovery.
