A fire destroyed a McDonald’s restaurant on Florida Boulevard before dawn Monday and was still flaring up by late morning, a fire official said.
The blaze on the structure in the 5000 block of Florida Blvd. was called in about 4:50 a.m., said Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesman Mark Miles.
Firefighters saw smoke billowing out of the back of the building when they arrived, Miles said. Some firefighters entered the restaurant, but had to leave after authorities noticed the roof becoming soft, Miles said. The department launched an “exterior attack” to pump water on the blaze but the fire “keeps flaring back up,” he said about 10 a.m.
No one was injured, and investigators don’t yet know the cause of the fire, Miles said.
The building is a total loss, he said.
“We’re still out there as we speak,” he said.
