Gumbo 2013: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., St. James Episcopal Church’s Bishop Hall, corner of Florida Boulevard and North Fourth Street. St. James Episcopal Church Women will hold its fundraiser “Gumbo 2013” every Friday during lent. The event will raise money by selling gumbo lunches, which includes shrimp or chicken and sausage gumbo, sensation salad, bread and dessert. Participants can dine in or pick up. Lunches are $10 each. Black History Month through the Arts: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Independence Park Theatre, 7800 Independence Blvd. BREC will celebrate Black History Month with musical performances and performing arts from local schools, churches and dance groups that showcase the cultural heritage and contributions of African Americans.
