First- through sixth-grade math students at Runnels Elementary School participated recently in the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Math-A-Thon and raised a record-breaking $8,653 for the charity.

Students participate by solving age-appropriate math problems in an online Math-A-Thon Funbook. Family and friends are asked for donations in support of a student’s participation in the program.

Top fundraisers this year were sixth-grader Eddie Tunis, $1,010; fifth-grader Evan Shaneyfelt and his sister, fourth-grader Megan Shaneyfelt, $500 each; and second-grader Nicholas Morgan, $380.

“I appreciate our students’ love and effort that makes the fundraiser such a success every year. They make me so proud,” Runnels Math-A-Thon coordinator Christine Pousson said.
