CHARENTON BEACH — The body of a 58-year-old hunter who had been missing for about a week was found Wednesday floating in a lake in St. Mary Parish, according to a news release.

Lynn Landry’s body was found Wednesday afternoon in the lake off Charenton Beach during a search and rescue operation, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office said in the release.

Landry was reported missing Dec. 22 shortly after 1 p.m.

Family members told authorities that Landry was believed to be at his camp in the Atchafalaya Basin, in the area of Bee Hive Shoot. He had not been heard or seen in two days and was overdue to return, the release said.

The state Wildlife and Fisheries, State Police, Coast Guard, volunteers and family members along with deputies from the Iberia, St. Tammany, St. Martin and Assumption parishes assisted in the search, the release said.

The Daily Iberian newspaper reported that foul play was not suspected in the case.

The St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office was called to the scene to assist the Sheriff’s Office in its investigation, the release said.
