State Police say a woman was killed and two others, including a 7-year-old, were injured Saturday evening when their vehicle’s driver, who was later accused of DWI, drove a truck off La. 105 near Krotz Springs and crashed into a tree.
Judy Stelly, 54, of Opelousas, was pronounced dead at Opelousas General after the southbound truck veered over the highway’s centerline, then overcorrected and swerved off the highway and crashed, Brooks David, a State Police spokesman, said.
Andrea Lacombe, 41, of Walker, was in critical condition at a Baton Rouge hospital, and a 7-year-old was treated for moderate injuries at a hospital, David said.
No one was wearing a seat belt. The vehicle’s driver, Nicholas Lafleur, 28, of Opelousas, who had only minor injuries, failed a Breathalyzer test, David said. Lafleur was booked into St. Landry Parish Jail for vehicular homicide as well as vehicular negligent injuring, driving while intoxicated, reckless operation and seat belt violations.
