Capital Area United Way and BASF are teaming up for the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance in honor of veterans, armed forces members and first responders, a news release said.
A career fair for veterans will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the Mall of Louisiana, on the second floor near center court. Veterans should bring their ré sumé s.
Residents can drop off personal hygiene items throughout Friday at the Mall of Louisiana Boulevard east entrance. Donated items will go to local homeless veterans. A list of suggested items is available at CAUW.org/9-11.
BASF employees made donations to fill and ship 200 care packages to local service members who are serving domestically and abroad.
Thank-you banners are available for schools and day care centers to decorate and send messages and words of encouragement. Banners can then be presented by schools to neighboring first-responding agencies. Select area schools can participate in decorating paper bags for local first responders to receive a special token of appreciation.
“The programs and projects provide an opportunity for the community to recall and rekindle the spirit of unity and compassion that existed immediately following the 9/11 attacks,” said Darrin Goss Sr., president/CEO of Capital Area United Way.
