Bike Baton Rouge on April 19 announced the recipients of its annual Mike Bitton Awards, who will be honored at an award ceremony at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Firehouse Gallery at the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge, 427 Laurel St.

The public is invited to attend.

The awards honor community members who have gone above and beyond in their efforts to make Baton Rouge a better place to bike, a news release said.

Honorees include David Cano, of Iron Works Design LLC, Bike Friendly Business Award; Gilles Morin, of the city of Baton Rouge Planning Commission, Bike Friendly Ambassador Award; Juan Cruz, of Cultural Dynamics, Bike Friendly Professional Award; and Beaux Jones, former president of Bike Baton Rouge, Mike Bitton Award.

The awards are named after Bitton, a former LSU student who became a spokesperson and advocate for bicycle safety and awareness following a hit-and-run crash that left him with life-threatening injuries, the release said.
