An Addis woman was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison Tuesday for stealing from a Baton Rouge real estate development firm where she worked as a business manager.
Renee Elise Beard, 50, also was ordered by U.S. District Judge James Brady to pay more than $295,000 in restitution to the victim of her fraud and forfeit more than $250,000 to the federal government, U.S. Attorney Walt Green said.
Beard, who pleaded guilty in December to wire fraud, must report to prison Sept. 15.
An FBI investigation revealed her thefts caused tax problems for her former employer, Campbell Companies.
Some of the company funds Beard stole were supposed to have been forwarded to the Internal Revenue Service on behalf of the company, Green said.
