Due the cold temperatures across the area, Baton Rouge Salvation Army has extended the hours at its shelter at 7361 Airline Highway beginning tonight, Command Officer Capt. Brett Meredith said in a news release

The shelter doors opened at 2 p.m. and residents will be allowed to stay until 9 a.m. Tuesday.

“Currently, we have 20 overnight beds in our emergency shelter, but with the freezing conditions, no one who needs a warm place to spend the night will be turned away,” Meredith said.

Freezing temperatures are expected through the week across the Baton Rouge area.

“We are here to help those in need during these kinds of life-threatening conditions,” Meredith said.
