State Sen. Yvonne Dorsey Colomb is navigating the State Capitol in a wheelchair, still recovering from major back surgery about a month ago.
“I’m here because I don’t want my constituents not to have a voice,” said Dorsey-Colomb, D-Baton Rouge.
“I’m going to be here as much as I possibly can. Even if I’m not on the floor (for proceedings), I’ll be in my office.”
Colomb said she is wearing a back brace that only comes off when she sleeps at night. She said she can walk some but not long distances required in moving around the Capitol during session.
During the 2015 session, Dorsey-Colomb said she’ll be pushing for health care funding for the poor and uninsured.
“When you are sick, it makes you want to fight even harder for people,” she said.
