St. Jude School’s Cougar cheerleaders attended the Universal Cheerleading Association cheerleading camp in June.

The middle school-aged girls won numerous awards during the camp.

Co-captain Lee Ann Lemaire was named best jumper after a campwide jumpoff contest.

Eighth-graders Lexus Pham, Lia Chaisson, co-captain Anne Marie Gahagan and captain Abby Lorio were selected as All-American Cheerleaders after tryouts. The girls were honored and invited to march in the Houston Thanksgiving Day Parade.

On the final day of competition, the squad won overall best dance extreme routine, best sideline cheer and overall best game day presentation. The squad placed second overall in cheer with stunts.

The girls won superior ratings each day at camp for daily evaluations of learned material, picking up the Superior Squad award for their efforts. The award qualified the group to attend and perform in a pregame performance at The Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Florida, in January.

The squad also won a spirit stick each day of camp because of unlimited spirit and school pride. The squad won the Leadership Award, which is voted on by all schools and camp attendees.

The squad is coached by Andrée Hidalgo.

“The girls have worked very hard this summer and are excited about getting ready to cheer their Cougars on for upcoming sporting events and their first pep rally on Sept. 19,” a news release said.
