Capital Area Corporate Recycling Council has launched its summer Laptops for Kids program, in which prekindergarten through high school students can purchase deeply discounted laptops.
The program ends Aug. 15. Laptops cost $90, run Windows 7 and come with a one-year warranty. Students must bring their school ID or current year report card to qualify.

The power of positivity
Terrance Morgan and Tyler Wilson, of Rhythm/Soul, will bring an interactive program using theater and urban dance to children at Bluebonnet Regional Branch Library at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
The program will focus on self-improvement, positive thinking, self-esteem and hard work.
Movies on the Plaza
Disney-Pixar’s “Brave” kicks off the Friday Night Movies on the Plaza series at 7 p.m. Friday at the Main Library. Families are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to view the film on the big screen in the outdoor plaza and take photos with a Scottish princess from the Petite Princess Company.
Refreshments will be available for purchase, and complimentary punch will be served. The movie will be simulcast in the library’s large meeting room for those in need of air conditioning.

Swamp bird walk
Join a member of the Baton Rouge Audubon Society for a morning bird walk, featuring bird-watching techniques and identification tips, through Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center at 7 a.m. Saturday.
Beginners birders are welcome. Field guides and binoculars are optional but recommended. General admission fees apply; pass holders get in free.

Bluebonnet Regional Branch Library has a fishy story and craft time for children ages 4 to 6 at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in meeting room 1. Listen to a reading of “Rainbow Fish” by Marcus Pfister, then make a paper fish necklace or hat.
