OAK GROVE — Drivers through one of Ascension Parish's busiest intersections can expect delays Saturday due to early work for the $27.5 million widening of La. 42 through Prairieville.

State highway officials said crews are expected to need intermittent lane closures around the La. 73/La. 42 intersection in Oak Grove. Workers will be installing subsurface drainage Saturday under La. 73, also known as Jefferson Highway, officials said.

Along La. 42, closures will go to the east up to La. 73, state Department of Transportation and Development officials said in a statement.

Along La. 73, workers plan periodic closures to the north and the south around the La. 42 intersection. DOTD officials said work is expected to last one day, weather permitting.

DOTD is widening nearly four miles of two-lane La. 42 into a four- and five-lane highway with a median, sidewalks and a bike trail. The long-awaited project started in late November and is expected to take more than two years to finish.
