ST. FRANCISVILLE — The West Feliciana Parish School Board on Tuesday accepted the resignation of West Feliciana Middle School Principal Ben Necaise and named Assistant Principal Jovanka Ganes as interim principal.
Necaise, who served as principal of the parish’s only middle school since 2009 and as assistant principal in 2008, resigned to become an educational consultant with the Louisiana Department of Education’s Office of Academic Policy and Analysis.
“This is my home: I grew up here, I went to school here and I taught here,” said Necaise, who was recently named the Louisiana Association of Principals’ 2014 Middle School Principal of the Year. “It’s hard to leave; I have mixed emotions, but I’m happy to have this experience. And the things that are special here, I’m going to share that with other people.”
Ganes, who earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees in education from Southern University, has been an educator with West Feliciana Parish schools for 26½ years.
“It’s going to be hard filling Mr. Necaise’s shoes, but I’m going to continue to do the things we need to do to be successful,” Ganes said.
“I was taken a bit off guard by his resignation, but I’m ready for this new adventure and I’m looking forward to working with the community. I taught some of the teachers at West Feliciana Middle and so many of the students’ parents, I feel most of them know me already.”
In addition, Mark Lester was named interim assistant principal and Jodi Lemoine was named interim administrative assistant.
