Baton Rouge Zoo will recognize and honor those actively serving and those who have served in the armed forces from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Activities will include displays and demonstrations by military and military support groups, as well as a special bald eagle chat.
Military veterans and active military will receive free admission for themselves and up to five guests when presenting a valid military ID. Regular admission applies for nonmilitary members.

Canary Islanders to meet
Mark Lazzard will present the findings of his research on the history of Matais Rodrigues, of Donaldsonville, at the Canary Islanders Heritage Society of Louisiana meeting 11 a.m. Saturday. The group will meet at Bluebonnet Regional Branch Library, 9200 Bluebonnet Blvd.
Matais was born in Donaldsonville in 1796. His parents were both Canary Islander emigrants who settled along Bayou LaFourche in the 1780s.
All meetings are open to the public.
Teen craft time
Bluebonnet Regional Branch Library will host craft time from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday where teens can make a key chain or necklace using Scrabble tiles. All materials will be provided.
Closed for Veterans Day
Bluebonnet Regional Branch Library will be closed Wednesday in observance of Veterans Day. Regular library hours will resume Nov. 12.
Bluebonnet crafters to meet
Bluebonnet’s Knitting Nook and Crochet Corner meet Nov. 12 at Bluebonnet Regional Branch Library.
The Knitting Nook gets together from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Limited supplies are available. Knitters should bring a pair of size 8, 9, 10 or 10 ½ knitting needles and two balls of yarn. All skill levels and left-handers are welcome.
The Crochet Corner meets from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. and will make Thanksgiving Day-themed items, including table runners, dishcloths and turkeys. Bring a 5.0 mm crochet hook (size H) or one similar in size, as well as fall-colored yarn. A limited amount of yarn will be available. Donations of yarn and supplies are welcome.

Splash pad closes
In preparation for winter, BREC closed the Highland Community Park splash pad for the 2015 season on Saturday. The splash pad will reopen in the spring.
