BREC crews were forced Monday to remove a 90-year-old live oak in City-Brooks Community Park after heavy winds and rains knocked it down over the weekend.

The tree was near Magnolia Drive near the Capital One Tennis Center, according to a news release from Cheryl Michelet, a spokeswoman for the Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge.

As soon as weather permits, BREC crews will plant a new tree in the same location, Michelet said.
