Baton Rouge’s downtown River Center Branch Library will open and close one hour earlier on Fridays starting this week because of the Live After Five concert series.

The library’s Friday hours will now be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from September 4 through October 23. The change does not affect any other days of the week, and the library’s Friday hours will return to 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on October 30.

The Live After Five concert series brings performers to Galvez Plaza, which is behind the downtown library, during fall and spring. The series kicks off Friday with cover band AM/FM.

The River Center Branch Library is also set to soon undergo a massive rebuilding effort, where it will become a “library of the future” with panoramic views of downtown on its upper terrace.
