BREC will open the largest indoor basketball facility in Baton Rouge on Saturday when it cuts the ribbon on the Team Automotive Group Sportsplex at Perkins Road Community Park.

The 30,000-square-foot complex is also the largest indoor volleyball complex in the state, said Kizzy Payton, a spokeswoman for the East Baton Rouge Parish Recreation and Park Commission.

The facility will be used for summer camps, athletic competitions and academic programs, Payton said.

Three tournament basketball courts, six youth basketball courts, 12 half courts and five competition basketball courts are among the offerings at the new building.

BREC broke ground on the project in October 2011. It was built in partnership with Team Automotive Group and the Baton Rouge Basketball and Volleyball Association, Payton said.

It was partially opened last summer.
