Baton Rouge Councilwoman C. Denise Marcelle said she wants Capital Area Transit System CEO Bob Mirabito to resign, claiming he has shown “poor leadership.”

“He shows poor leadership, no transit experience and a lack of respect for public officials,” Marcelle said.

Marcelle has called a Thursday news conference on the steps of City Hall. She will be joined by CATS union members.

Marcelle said she is concerned about Mirabito’s management style and treatment of employees.

Last week, CATS employees protested outside of the Florida Boulevard bus terminal, saying Mirabito and CATS management were neglecting maintenance on buses and creating an unsafe environment for drivers and riders. They also criticized management for violating their union contract.

Marcelle said she has tried to reach out to Mirabito over the past week to try to get answers about some of her concerns.

She said union members invited her to a meeting with CATS management and Mirabito denied her access. He also canceled another meeting with her that was scheduled for Thursday.

Mirabito could not immediately be reached Wednesday afternoon for comment.

Marcelle said she planned to give more details about her grievances at the news conference.
