Interstate 10 from Lafayette to U.S. 61 in Ascension Parish, both east and westbound lanes, were opened at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday evening, Louisiana State Police announced. In addition, State Police opened east and westbound lanes of Interstate 12 from Baton Rouge to Robert, State Police spokesman Doug Cain said Wednesday evening.
Also, the state Department of Transportation and Development announced that as of 7 p.m. Wednesday, that Interstate 10 Atchafalaya Basin Bridge, between Lafayette and Baton Rouge is open to traffic.
Other sections of the interstates remain closed at this time due to concerns about ice.
When preparations were being made for the roads, the State Police and the Department of Transportation and Development decided it would be too difficult to keep I-10 open because of the elevated portions of the highway and the bridges, especially the Bonnet Carre Spillway and the Atchafalaya Basin, Cain said.
Instead, DOTD and the State Police decided it would be best to put their focus on keeping U.S. 61 and U.S. 190 open, Cain said.
“We just didn’t want to waste our resources,” he said.
